WALDO ORVAL MARZOLF, age 75, of rural Preston, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, November 24, 2011, at his home after a long illness.
Waldo was born
September 28, 1936, at the home farm in
Carimona
Township to Oscar and Idella (Freitag)
Marzolf. He was baptized, confirmed and married at
St. Paul’s
German
Lutheran
Church in
Preston. He attended Preston Public Schools and graduated in 1954. He served in the Minnesota National Guard, active duty for four years and inactive duty for 2 years, earning several expert marksmanship honors. He married Linda Olson on
June 5th 1959. He was a lifelong farmer and also sold Pride Seed for many years.
Waldo was a member of
Christ
Lutheran
Church in
Preston and served on the church council. He enjoyed farming, working with animals, his dog Chubs, antiques, hunting, watching football, gardening, good friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He had a sweet tooth for candy, ice cream and cookies.
Waldo is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Craig (Tilka) Marzolf of Shelbyville, KY; daughter, Susan Marzolf of Richfield, MN; and son, Jim (Sheila) Marzolf of Preston; three grandchildren, Kaelyn Marzolf, Nicholas Marzolf and Matthew Marzolf all of Preston; two sisters, Lavona Johnson of Austin, MN, and Phyllis Schaefer of Maquoketa, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held
1:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at
Christ
Lutheran
Church with Rev. Dave Jore officiating. Burial of his ashes will be in the
Christ
Lutheran
Cemetery in
Preston. Friends may call at Thauwald Funeral Home in
Preston
5-8:00 p.m. and on Monday and an hour before services at the church.
